Plenty of action for kids at this year’s Whale Festival

The Hermanus Whale Festival and Children’s Festival promises non-stop fun for the whole school holidays – from 23 September – 2 October.
If you have children between the ages of 5 to 10 who never have enough to do during the school holidays then the place for them is The Kidzone @ The Station.

A jampacked programme of shows begins on Thursday 23rd Sept and runs every day through to Friday 01 Oct. If puppets and clowns aren’t enough, then take in an educational talk on baboons - you can even wear a baboon mask!

In between shows Woolworths will be presenting the My School programme and budding little artists will get busy with the paint or meet Xenia and Torak. two lovable characters from a planet far, far away who will teach the little ones all about how to take care of their bodies and their environment. Shows start at 13h00 sharp.

Children between the ages of 5 and 10 are invited to create their own mini-masterpieces using all sorts of seeds, nuts, grass and sand. Armed with a paint brush and some glue and with the help of skilled art students and teachers, three days of fun is guaranteed. Gallery opens at 10h00 to 17h00 at the Station.

In addition you can catch Rooikappie and Pinocchio at the new Civic Theatre, performed by international mime artist John Jacobs on Friday 24th Sept at 16:00.

If whale watching is the main reason for a visit to Hermanus, then visit the Rainbow Stage at the new Amphitheatre on the cliff tops and let our giant visitors inspire you while you take in a show on humans aspiring to be whales. The Wondering Whale Watchers is sponsored by International Fund for Animal Welfare and is on daily.

The end of the long weekend does not mean the end of the fun. From Monday 27th to Fri day 1st October the kids will be safely kept busy with art activities, monkeynastix, jumping castles, a clown and face painter and even more talks and shows. Daily workshops include cookie making, art activities and mime. Shows include “Suzie and Dr TV Box, a fantasy play set in Story Town. Dr RV Box is the greediest doctor in town – he wants to rule the world by stealing everyone’s stories. Suzie tries her best to stop him with the help of the audience. Also on show is Kelly the KTV magician and Tick Tock 12 O’Clock – the time everything in Lucy’s cupboard come to life!

Mom you don’t even have to pack a snack, Woolworths will take care of it for you.

So make Hermanus your holiday destination in September if you want to avoid that “MOM I’M BORED SCENARIO”
