When it’s Spring it’s time to celebrate!

The Hermanus Whale Festival beckons with a superstar line-up of southern right whales and top entertainers from terra firma from 23 – 26 September 2004.

CHEF WATCHING TO RIVAL WHALE WATCHING IN HERMANUS

For three days, visitors to the Hermanus Whale Festival will be able to intersperse their whale-watching with one of the world’s current favourite pastimes – watching top chefs in action, slicing, dicing, flipping, frying, baking and… entertaining.

The excitement begins with the South African Chefs team who will be representing our country at the Culinary Olympics in Germany doing their final cook-off in Hermanus to launch this year’s Festival. The team will serve their Olympic dinner to 110 guests at a gala banquet on 23 September.

From the following day to the end of the festival the Woolworths Chefs Theatre will take over and is destined to give the Festival a culinary boost. A kitchen, specially constructed by leading manufacturer of equipment, Vulcan CAARS, in the Old Library, will be the scene of demonstrations by some of Cape Town’s top chefs and Hermanus’s own culinary creators, as the South African Chefs Association (SACA) presents a jam-packed schedule of activities to inspire and get those creative juices flowing.
Taking place from 24 to 26 September in Hermanus, the Woolworths Chefs Theatre will feature an entertaining, informative, interactive and educational programme of demonstrations by some of Hermanus and Cape Town’s leading chefs.

The kitchen will be specially constructed for the duration of the Festival, offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine or beer and a look behind the scenes into the domain of the chef.

The lineup will include demonstrations of signature dishes by some of Cape Town’s top chefs, as well as the specialities of local restaurants and interactive demonstrations of Woolworths’ quality food range, sharing hints for healthy eating and convenient entertaining, with an emphasis on freshness. You’ll be able to see your favourite celebrity behind the stove instead of behind the microphone in a culinary challenge similar to that seen on our screens in “Ready, Steady, Cook” – but with a difference. Each celebrity will be paired with a chef, who will only be able to shout instructions and not actually help their partner to create a culinary masterpiece for the watching public to sample.
