JOIN THE FIRST-EVER WELCOME WHALES WAVE!!

One of the most exciting and innovative events at this year’s Hermanus Whale Festival is the Welcome Whales Wave – about 2 000 people will create a human chain along the unique Cliff Path and perform a welcoming wave for the whales which will be filmed for television and other media.
The Welcome Whales Wave on 24 September, Heritage Day, is aimed at raising awareness of the Cliff Path and uniting all our people in a Proudly South African human chain of appreciation for our Decade of Democracy, our heritage and our environment.

The event is being held in association with the Destination Marketing Organisation (DMO) for Western Cape Tourism and Cape Town Tourism.
Hermanus is rated as one of the top 13 whale-watching sites in the world and is recognised as offering the best land based whale watching in the world.

This is due to the many unequalled vantage points along the scenic 12.5 kilometre Cliff Path that hugs the coastline from the New Harbour to Grotto Beach.

The Welcome Whales Wave will stretch from Protea Road all along the seafront of Marine Drive to Fick’s Pool, (approx 3km) and will include celebrities, children, disabled people, residents and visitors who will all be part of this historical and fun celebration.

The Hermanus Whale Festival celebrates Proudly South African week with the Welcome Whales Wave.

ANYONE CAN JOIN IN by registering at the Whale Festival office (028) 3130928, or email festival@hermanus.co.za or contact the co-ordinator of the event, Gwyneth Norman on 072 434 0561. CHEF WATCHING TO RIVAL WHALE WATCHING IN HERMANUS

For three days, visitors to the Hermanus Whale Festival will be able to intersperse their whale-watching with one of the world’s current favourite pastimes – watching top chefs in action, slicing, dicing, flipping, frying, baking and… entertaining.
The excitement begins with the South African Chefs team who will be representing our country at the Culinary Olympics in Germany doing their final cook-off in Hermanus to launch this year’s Festival. The team will serve their Olympic dinner to 110 guests at a gala banquet on 23 September.
